How combat XP works in Idle Clans

The official combat calculator's constants give 4 XP per hit to the skill your combat style trains and 1 Health XP; the game data's shared settings list the same pair as CombatExpPerHit 4 and HealthExpPerHit 1. None of the 79 combat enemies in the game data carries a per-kill XP reward, so the XP comes from the fight itself, not from the kill.

The community wiki, and our combat calculator, apply that figure per point of damage dealt. On that reading a kill pays exactly the monster's health times 4, since damage past the last health point is not dealt, and every point of damage is worth the same XP whichever monster takes it. So the monster you level fastest on is the one you deal the most damage to per hour, counting the time lost to respawns, and that depends on your max hit and your hit chance against it.

How much of an hour goes to respawns

Each kill is followed by a 2.55 second respawn with no damage. The shorter your kills, the bigger the share of the hour spent waiting. This is plain arithmetic on the official respawn time.

Monsters by zone: health, defence and XP per kill

XP per kill is health x 4 (style) and health x 1 (Health), the combat calculator's method. Defence level and the defence bonus against each style come straight from the game data. The game does not publish its hit chance formula; the in-game Damage calcs panel shows your hit chance against a monster, and a matching weakness lowers its defence by 20%. Frequently asked questions

How do you get combat XP in Idle Clans?

By dealing damage. The official combat calculator's constants give 4 XP per hit to the skill your combat style trains and 1 Health XP; the game data's shared settings list the same 4 and 1. None of the 79 combat enemies in the game data carries a per-kill XP reward, so XP comes from the fight, not the kill. Our combat calculator applies the figure per point of damage, as the community wiki describes.

Which monster gives the most combat XP per kill?

The ones with the most health, because a kill deals exactly its health in damage: Hydra, Manticore, Minotaur, Centaur, Necromancer, Mutated dragon, Grimwark, Otherworldly executioner at 400 health, so 1,600 XP per kill by the calculator's method. Per hour, what matters is how much damage you deal, which depends on your max hit and your hit chance against that monster.

Is it better to fight a stronger or a weaker monster for XP?

After each kill the monster takes 2.55 seconds to respawn and you deal no damage in that time, so a monster you kill in a few seconds loses a large share of the hour to respawns, while one that takes longer loses less. Against that, more defence can lower your hit chance; the game shows the actual figure per monster. Enter the hit chance and max hit the game shows you into the combat calculator for each candidate and compare XP per hour.

Should I fight monsters weak to my style?

A weakness gives +20% damage and -20% defence against a matching weapon (official calculator constants), so more damage per hour and more XP. Regular monsters by weakness: Archery 9, Magic 8, Pound 8, Stab 8, Crush 7, Slash 7.
