Mid Game Progression (Levels 40-80)
Levels 40 to 80: the zones after the Cave, Exterminating, your first Valley of Gods boss, the middle housing tiers and the clan upgrades your levels start to unlock. Monster stats are from the official game data; level rules from the official wiki.
Short version: Elite at 40, Superior at 55, Outstanding at 70, Godlike at 80. Work through the Wilderness, Haunted Graveyard and Uncharted Grounds using weakness, pick up Exterminating assignments as your Health allows, and start on boss keys once your weapon can carry a 350 to 500 health fight.
The size of the job
Level 40 is 30,729 total XP. Level 60 is 230,182, and level 80 is 1,689,734. That is a lot more than the first forty levels, and it is where most players stop leveling everything at once and start planning. You will not max all your skills in this band, so spend the levels where they unlock something: a weapon tier, a housing tier, a clan upgrade. The XP calculator turns any of these totals into hours for your own rate.
Weapons through the middle levels
The wiki's weapon table moves in steady steps here: Superior at 55, Outstanding at 70 and Godlike at 80, the same levels for melee, archery and magic. Between them sit a few special weapons. At 75 Attack the wiki lists the Scorched halberd, Abyssal maul, Astaroth's scimitar and Fury's glaive. In the game data the halberd drops from Phoenix, the maul from Kraken and the glaive from Fury, and Fury's glaive has 146 accuracy, more than the 135 on the Godlike heavy hammer. On the magic side the Wand of lifesteal unlocks at 65 Magic, and the game data lists it from Hades, Zeus and the Witch in both raids. The best weapon page compares every one of them on accuracy, strength and attack speed.
For armour, the melee families after Iron and Steel are Platinum, Meteorite, Titanium and Astronomical. Magic has Enchanted, Cursed and Wizard's pieces, and archery has the Leather, Orange, Green, Red and Black families. Each slot is its own upgrade, so buy the slot that gains the most and leave the rest. The melee, archery and magic gear pages list the upgrade path for every slot.
The three zones after the Cave
The game data puts six monsters in each zone, and no two in a zone share a weakness. That is the point of the mid game: a single weapon type will not cover them all.
| Zone | Monsters (health, weakness) |
|---|---|
| Wilderness | Troll (32, slash), Wandering warrior (34, crush), Druid (36, stab), Gorilla (38, pound), Giant (40, magic), Green dragon (44, archery) |
| Haunted Graveyard | Ghost (46, magic), Zombie (48, slash), Possessed bear (50, crush), Witch (52, stab), Demon (54, pound), Red dragon (56, archery) |
| Uncharted Grounds | Mad wizard (60, stab), Vampire (65, slash), Werewolf (70, pound), Dark wizard (75, crush), Cerberus (80, magic), Black dragon (90, archery) |
The Druid, Witch, Mad wizard and Dark wizard attack with magic, which changes which of your defences matters. Every name links through from the monster list, and best monster for gold ranks them by the average value of one loot roll.
Exterminating
Exterminating is a combat skill built on assignments. The game data has five experts, each asking for a Health level and paying a fixed number of points per assignment: Eldric (Health 1, 5 points), Morgana (Health 25, 10 points), Alaric (Health 40, 15 points), Thorne (Health 60, 20 points) and Sila (Health 80, 30 points). The assignment monsters have their own level requirements, from the Golem at 30 through the Mammoth (40), Basilisk (50), Banshee (55), Gargoyle (60), Cockatrice (65), Roc (70), Dire wolf (75) and Behemoth (80). The points buy unlocks and supply crates in the Exterminating shop. Because Health levels from every fight, the expert you can use rises without you doing anything special. The Exterminating page has each expert's monster list and the points per 100 kills.
Your first boss
The Valley of Gods has six key bosses. From the wiki's bossing page: Hades has 350 health and is weak to stab, Zeus 380 (archery), Devil 390 (pound), Medusa 425 (slash), Griffin 440 (crush) and Chimera 500 (magic). Each needs its own key, and each sits behind its own door. Compare that with the Black dragon at 90 health and you can see why bosses wait for the mid-game weapons. The wiki also says bosses can be fought offline, but only solo, because group combat needs you online.
Start with the boss your current weapon hits for weakness. If you use a staff, that is Chimera; a crossbow or bow user starts on Zeus. Each boss kill is also worth 12 clan credits per participant (15 with Premium), so your clan gains from it too. The bosses page shows where each key comes from in the game data.
Housing and upgrades in this band
The Tent costs 500,000 gold and needs Carpentry 50 and Smithing 40. The Van down by the River is 2,500,000 gold with Carpentry 70 and Smithing 60, and the Small Cabin is 10,000,000 gold with Carpentry 80 and Smithing 70. If you followed the early game guide, your Carpentry and Smithing are already moving. The upgrades page lists the other personal upgrades and their gold costs.
Clan upgrades your levels unlock
Clan upgrades check the clan's skill stats, which every member adds to. Several open around here, according to the wiki: Strength in numbers (combat skills 30, 12,500 credits, 10% bonus combat XP with your clan), Group effort (combat 40 and Magic 50, +10% Plundering success), More gathering and No time to waste (gathering skills 40), and Get Up! (combat 60, Magic 50, 25,000 credits, halves enemy death timers). Yoink, at Agility 60, gives a 15% chance to keep a key when you enter a boss lair, which is worth a lot once your clan is farming bosses. The clan upgrades page has the game-data costs.
Enchanting opens up
Enchanting starts at Enchanting 1 with Magic 20 for the common tier, and the rare tier needs Enchanting 40 and Magic 50, per the game data. The enchanting guide has the scrolls and which jewellery has an enchanted version. When you reach 80 in your style and Godlike gear is in reach, move on to the late game guide.
Frequently asked questions
What does the Cardboard Box need?
100,000 gold, Carpentry 30 and Smithing 20. It is the first of five player housing tiers in the game data.
When can I fight my first Valley of Gods boss?
Once you have that boss's key. The six key bosses have 350 to 500 health according to the official wiki, far above any regular Wilderness monster, so most players wait for Elite (40) or Superior (55) weapons.
How much XP is it from level 40 to level 80?
Level 40 is 30,729 total XP and level 80 is 1,689,734, so the band from 40 to 80 is where training time starts to stretch.
