Beginner Mistakes to Avoid
None of these will ruin an account. They just cost gold or hours you didn't need to lose. Each one comes with the fix.
1. Selling all your coal
Coal is the easiest thing to sell on day one, which is exactly why new players sell all of it. Then they can't cook. Every cooked fish needs one coal, and so does every bar you smelt. Fix: sell about half, keep the rest.
2. Fighting without food
Cooked fish heals you automatically in battle. Walking into fights with an empty food slot means shorter fights and more losses. Fix: cook before you fight, every time.
3. Letting the character sit idle
After 6 hours (8 with membership) your character stops. If you sleep for eight, you lost two. Fix: queue the longest safe action right before a long break, and prefer one that uses no materials. More on this in chapter 3.
4. Queuing a crafting action that runs dry
Cooking, smelting and forging stop when their inputs run out. A six-hour queue with one hour of fish in the bag is a five-hour nap. Fix: check the materials before you log off, or queue a gathering skill instead.
5. Entering a dungeon at the minimum
You can enter once your combat stats reach 70% of a dungeon's difficulty, but at 70% you lose all your health. Fix: aim for 100% or more before your first run, and never chain runs that each cost more than half your health. Two 60% runs add up to a defeat.
6. Treating purchase orders as free
A purchase order has a base fee of 15% of the order total (12% for members), and you do not get it back if the order expires unfilled. Longer durations cost extra on top. Fix: place orders at prices that will actually fill, and use the shortest duration that works.
7. Expecting an alt to trade straight away
Alternate characters need a total level of 150 before they can use the market at all. Fix: level the alt first, and plan its early output for your own characters.
8. Picking a locked class by accident
Banished and Cursed are trade-locked: they have no market access and cannot contribute to a guild's stockpile. These classes are a deliberate challenge, not a stronger option. Fix: read the restrictions in the classes guide before choosing one.
9. Rushing to equip a fresh pet
Eggs from world bosses need to incubate, and higher-quality eggs take longer. An incubating pet can't be equipped or listed for sale. Fix: plan around the wait, or buy a ready pet on the Companion Exchange if you need one now; those skip incubation.
Bonus: leaving a guild on a whim
Leave or get kicked and you wait 24 hours before you can join, apply to or create another guild. Not a disaster, just annoying if you were mid-challenge.
