Short answer

World bosses are shared fights on a respawn timer, and they are the main source of pet eggs. Join the queue (it opens 2 hours before the fight), go in with your best combat gear, pet and any XP or Magic Find boosts already active, and pick the highest boss your Combat level suits. Thal'guth (level 95) pays the most XP at 12,000.

In this guide

World bosses are the one part of IdleMMO where the whole server shows up for the same fight. They give a lump of experience, a Chest of Upgrades chance, and most importantly the eggs that become pets. They run on fixed respawn timers, so they reward planning your logins more than grinding. Live timers are on our world boss tracker; this guide is about choosing and preparing.

How the fight works

Each boss has a combat level, a fight length and a respawn cooldown after it dies. You can join the queue up to two hours before a fight starts; the queue closes when the fight begins, so a late login means waiting for the next spawn. Fight length roughly tracks difficulty, from 600 seconds for Isadora to 1,700 for Thal'guth. After a kill, the boss respawns after its cooldown, from 8 hours at the bottom to 18 hours at the top.

What the wiki doesn't document: how damage is tallied between players, how loot is split, or exact rules on food and potions inside the fight. We are not going to guess at those. What is documented is that Magic Find and XP effects have world-boss-specific categories (more on that below), so preparation does matter.

Level, XP, fight length, respawn and eggs from the official wiki's world boss page. Every standing boss also lists a Chest of Upgrades. Event bosses (Voloris, Altair, Noctarok, Wickerjack, Mortem, Glacivor, Blightbloom) only appear during their festivals.

Which boss to fight

Look at the XP column against the fight length. Up to Skarn the XP climbs by roughly 500-700 per tier while the fight grows by 100 seconds. Then it jumps: Voragor pays 8,616 and Thal'guth 12,000, with Thal'guth's fight only 200 seconds longer. If your Combat level supports the top two bosses, they are in a different class from the rest for XP per minute of fighting.

For eggs, XP is the wrong lens. Each boss drops its own set, so the boss you want is the one that drops the pet you want. Our pets and companions guide maps every egg to its boss, and best pet ranks them by rarity, drop chance and market price. A low-level boss with a valuable egg can be a better use of a login than a high one you only scrape through.

Respawn timers also shape the choice. Isadora at 8 hours can fit two or three times into a day; Voragor and Thal'guth at 18 hours can't. If you play in short windows, the bosses whose timers line up with your schedule may deliver more fights per week, which matters more than the XP of any single kill.

Event bosses

Seasonal festivals add their own bosses, and they play very differently from the standing eleven. The wiki lists four level 10 event bosses (Voloris, Altair, Noctarok and Wickerjack) at 500 XP with an 80-second fight and a 3.5-hour respawn, and three level 60 ones (Mortem, Glacivor and Blightbloom) at 3,000 XP, also 80 seconds, respawning every 7 hours. Short fights on short timers mean many more attempts per day than any standing boss allows. If an event is running and you can check in every few hours, they are worth fitting in; when it ends they disappear until next year.

What to bring: preparing your character

Because the wiki doesn't spell out how bosses calculate individual contribution, the safe assumption is that your combat stats matter, the same way they do everywhere else. Before the queue closes:

Fitting bosses around idle actions

The awkward part of world bosses is that they interrupt whatever you have queued. A good habit is to check the tracker before you queue a long idle action. If a boss you want starts inside your idle window, queue something shorter, join the boss queue when it opens, and start the long action after. Missing a boss you were waiting on costs you a full respawn cycle, and on the top bosses that is most of a day.

Once the eggs start coming, the next questions are incubation, evolution and Pet Mastery; the companion database, with its exchange prices, picks up from there.

Frequently asked questions

How early can I join a world boss?

You can join the queue up to 2 hours before the fight starts. The queue closes when the battle begins.

Which world boss gives the most XP?

Thal'guth, the level 95 boss in The Citadel, at 12,000 XP per the wiki. Voragor (level 90) gives 8,616.

Do Magic Find boosts help on world bosses?

Yes. World Boss Magic Find is a named boost category: Guidance Scrolls of the magic-find type and Conquest ruler rewards both list it.
