How to make gold in SimpleMMO

Gold in SimpleMMO comes in slowly from quests, travel and loot. It goes out quickly through fees, bad market buys, PvP kills and the Game Centre. Most players get richer faster by plugging those leaks than by finding a new money method.

Where gold comes from

Quests

Each quest pays a set amount of gold and XP, and higher-level quests pay more. Completing quests also adds a permanent +0.5% gold bonus (per the wiki). Since quests cost quest points, they're the gold source most worth keeping topped up.

Travel

A step can drop gold anywhere from 1 up to your current level, plus items you can sell. It's free, so it's pure profit, just slow.

Selling loot

Arena wins drop an item 60% of the time, and travel finds items up to 8 levels above you. The money comes from knowing which ones to sell where (below).

World bosses

Bosses pay gold as well as XP and a guaranteed item of at least rare rarity. Version 12.87 lowered the world-boss gold reward, noticeably from around level 300,000, so very high-level players earn less here than they used to.

Diamonds for gold

The diamond market lets players sell diamonds to each other for gold inside the game, with no trust needed. Diamonds you earn from leaderboards, chests and daily rewards can be turned into gold this way.

Events

Event items (Halloween pumpkins, Christmas gifts, Easter eggs, football cards) trade at Mahol's Hut for event rewards. Old event items can sell above shop price to collectors.

Shop or player market?

The player market charges a 3.5% fee, taken after the item sells. Buying from the market with gold straight from your bank adds another 2.5% fee. Keys and Diamond Shards can't be listed at all.

  • Common items: they rarely sell much above the shop price shown under the item name. Once the 3.5% fee comes off, quick-selling to the shop is usually the same money with none of the wait.
  • Rare, event and collector items: list these on the market. Rarity and event history are what buyers pay extra for.
  • Lock what you mean to keep: since v12.85 you can lock an item so it can't be traded, sold or sent by mistake. Market listing has no confirmation step.

Where gold leaks

Pocket gold and PvP

Killing a player can take a share of their pocket gold. Gold in the bank is safe from that. Moving pocket gold into your own bank is free.

Sending fees

Pocket to pocket is free. Bank to pocket and pocket to bank cost 2%, and bank to bank costs 4%. The sender pays.

Early market gear

Low-level gear from other players gets replaced by better free drops within a few levels. Don't spend your first gold on it.

Gambling

The Game Centre is where new players lose the little gold they have. The community wiki's advice is blunt: don't.

Teleports

Since v12.86 the teleport price scales with your level, capped at 250,000 gold. At high levels, walk when you aren't in a hurry.

Arena fees

The arena charges a fee per fight that scales with your level. If you're losing fights, you're paying for nothing.

A gold routine that works

  1. Spend quest points on the best quest you can pass reliably. That's gold and XP together.
  2. Bank your pocket gold before you log off. It's free, and it stops PvP losses.
  3. Quick-sell common drops. List only rare, event and collector items.
  4. Lock anything you plan to keep or wear.
  5. Skip the Game Centre and early market gear.

For the XP side of the same routine, see how to level up fast.
