What's the best job in SimpleMMO?
If an old guide told you to "pick Rogue" or "pick Banker", it's out of date. The community wiki records that jobs were replaced by professions in version 12.51, and the game's update notes now talk about profession ranks, profession XP and profession bonus stats. The idea is the same as before: a career path you rank up that gives a permanent bonus. The best one is the one whose bonus fits your build.
How the old jobs worked
Under the old system, each job path gave a permanent stat bonus that grew with your rank in it. The wiki's Blacksmith path, for example, started at +10 Strength and the Thief path at +10 Dexterity, both rising as you completed more jobs. You could switch paths every 24 hours without losing progress, but the bonuses didn't stack: only your current job's bonus counted. While a job ran, you couldn't step, quest or use energy.
The official About page still describes careers like guard, thief, master chef and blacksmith, so the career flavour survived the rename.
What the update notes say about professions
Profession experience increased by 15% at all ranks. Ranking up is faster than it was.
Minor improvements to how profession bonus stats scale with level, so the bonus is still a real stat bonus.
We don't publish the current profession list or exact bonus values, because no public source we trust lists them. Check the in-game profession screen for current numbers.
How to pick one
- Match the bonus stat to your weakest link. If you're failing quests, a Dexterity bonus pays off right away. If fights drag on, take Strength. Our stats guide shows where each stat stops helping.
- Remember bonuses count in combat totals. The combat formula uses your total stats, including profession bonuses, so put them into the combat calculator along with your gear.
- Commit to one path. The bonus grows with rank, so spreading your time across several paths leaves every bonus small.
Gathering skills and crafting
Separate from professions, SimpleMMO has four gathering skills: woodcutting, mining, fishing and treasure hunting. Each levels on its own and needs its own tool equipped. Common and uncommon tools are sold at Tom's Tools in towns. Material spots turn up while you travel and run out after a few gathers.
Crafting doesn't need a tool. It uses what you've gathered, and a higher crafting level unlocks recipes and crafts faster. Since v12.87 the crafting window can add the materials for you (Plebeian only) and shows the total you're missing when you change the quantity.
